Every word hiding in your letters

Stuck on a rack of tiles, a tricky anagram, or a daily word puzzle? A word unscrambler takes the jumble you’re staring at and lays out every legal word those letters can form, from the full-length answer down to the short fillers. Enter your letters and the results appear instantly, sorted longest first so the biggest, highest-scoring plays are right at the top.

This one is built for real games. Drop in a ? wherever you have a blank tile and it will test every letter of the alphabet in that slot, just like Scrabble or Words With Friends. And because the whole dictionary loads into your browser, the unscrambling happens on your own device the moment you type — no waiting on a server, and nothing you enter ever leaves your screen. Use it to break an anagram, rescue a stalled turn, or simply see what’s possible.

Frequently asked

How does a word unscrambler work?

A word unscrambler takes the letters you enter and searches a dictionary for every valid word that can be built from them. It checks the full set of letters and every smaller combination, then lists the matches. This tool does all of that instantly in your browser, grouping results by word length.

Can I use it for Scrabble and Words With Friends?

Yes. Enter your rack of letters and it returns every word those letters can form, sorted from longest to shortest so the highest-scoring plays are easy to spot. Use a ? to represent a blank tile, and the unscrambler will try every possible letter in its place.

What does the ? wildcard do?

A question mark stands in for a blank or unknown tile. The unscrambler substitutes every letter of the alphabet into that slot and returns all the valid words that result. You can use up to two wildcards at once, just like the blank tiles in most word games.

Is the word unscrambler free and private?

It is completely free, with no sign-up. It also runs entirely in your browser — the dictionary loads once and all the unscrambling happens on your device, so nothing you type is sent to a server.

Why do some results look like obscure words?

The dictionary is large and comprehensive, so it includes rare, archaic and technical words that are still officially valid in many word games. If you only want everyday words, focus on the ones you recognise — but the obscure entries are often exactly what wins a tight Scrabble game.
