Every count that matters, at a glance

Whether you’re trimming an essay to a word limit, writing to a character cap, or sizing up how long a piece takes to read, the numbers matter. This counter tracks all of them at once and updates the moment you type or paste, so you never have to guess how close you are to a target.

It’s built for privacy and speed. Everything runs locally in your browser — your text is never uploaded, there’s no sign-up, and there’s no length limit. Words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and an estimated reading time are all there in one glance, which makes it handy for students, writers, marketers and anyone working to a spec.

Frequently asked

How does the word counter work?

Paste or type text into the box and the counts update instantly. Words are counted by splitting on spaces, characters are counted with and without spaces, and sentences and paragraphs are detected from punctuation and line breaks. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time is estimated at about 200 words per minute, a common average for adult silent reading. It is a rough guide — actual speed varies with the difficulty of the text and the reader, but it is useful for judging article or script length.

What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?

Characters with spaces counts every keystroke including spaces and line breaks; characters without spaces counts only visible characters. Many platforms and assignments specify one or the other, so the tool shows both.

Is there a word limit?

No. You can paste as much text as you like and the counts update in real time. Because it all runs locally in your browser, there are no uploads, no sign-up and no limits.
